Fair's fair

Where Personio is strong

Broad, mature HRIS core: employee files, org chart, onboarding/offboarding workflows, document templates, Docusign e-signatures, approvals and analytics in one platform. [source]
Large app ecosystem: paid apps for recruiting/ATS with careers page, performance, surveys, compensation and whistleblowing, plus a Marketplace of partner integrations at no extra Personio charge. [source]
Enterprise-grade access controls: SSO (Google on Core; SAML/OIDC, Okta, Entra ID), enforceable 2FA, audit log, data-retention policies; EU (Frankfurt) hosting. [source]
Time tracking with geofencing, break rules, overtime/TOIL and a browser-based PIN/QR kiosk on the Core plan. [source]
Well reviewed for ease of use and interface (G2 4.4 from ~1,069 reviews; reviewers cite intuitive interface and centralised HR). [source]

Why teams look elsewhere

Common themes in Personio reviews

No published GBP pricing: quote-only, starting from €7.60/employee/month for Core, plus a one-time setup fee and separately priced apps; G2 reviewers call pricing opaque with important features locked behind add-ons. [source]
No native rota/shift scheduling - Personio points shift planning to partner integrations (e.g. shyftplan; Planday on Marketplace). [source]
No UK payroll engine: Personio Payroll is German-only; UK customers use preliminary payroll export plus Xero or Sage 50. [source]
Core plan limits: 5MB of documents per employee, e-signatures capped at 8% of licensed employees, one legal entity, no custom API integrations (Core Pro needed). [source]
Restricted support: only account/contract/payroll owners can reach humans; live chat only on a paid Premium Support plan, weekdays 09:00-18:00 CET; no weekend/bank holiday cover. [source]

Why atlasHR

Built for UK SMEs, not configured down to them

Personio only quotes prices, starting "from €7.60 per employee per month" plus a one-off set-up fee, with recruitment, performance and other modules as unpriced add-ons. Shift planning comes from partner products, and UK payroll means exporting to another system.

atlasHR publishes its prices from £2.50 per user, and WfMHub adds rotas, offline clocking and timesheets, with holiday, absence and atlasDrive documents included.
